We MADE a DENT!

This is exciting!  If I look at what we did, not what remains to do, we really made progress.  I can now open my door all the way.  No stuff keeping it from opening beyond a 45 degree angle.  and the walkway into the room is twice as wide, a normal walkway instead of a tiny one foot wide wiggle space.  The head high pile of stuff in the way of the closet is gone.  I can now walk back to the back and get into the whole space.

Sarah kept asking if there was something more she could do.  Most of the time I had her perched on a chair cause its pretty hard for two people to get passed one another in here.  Mostly she was there to encourage me to let go.   Not that I let go of everything she thought I should.  But she is a really good helper cause she would make suggestions about stuff and I on my part made a point of being willing to at least entertain the idea of getting rid of some stuff that I hadn't really thought about yet.  I took two boxes and a bag of "gently used" clothing to the goodwill.  I have a big black garbage bag outside my door half full of actual garbage.

Its not that I meant to keep that stuff.  It just ended up buried under other stuff that came in the door after it.  I found the eight steak knives that went missing over the last few months.  Some unwashed dishes under my papers and projects.  Found two half finished purses.  (I sew as a hobby, an avocation, a passion.)

I started working at 9am when I got up.  Sarah got here at 10:30 and we just kept at it until 2pm when we did the last step, the dejunkify step.  We had a drop off field trip.  First stop Goodwill.  Second stop was the County Animal Shelter, to donate a dog pillow that Sarah finished off for me while I was sorting.

See, I take donated fabric or my stash fabric and make a pillow, then stuff it with batting and fiberfill that quilters and crafters save for me.  The bits too small to use in their projects.  Then I whip stitch the opening closed and its a dog bed.   Recycles garbage and keeps it out of the landfill.    Time for me to make the next pillow cause there is a small pile of stuffing in front of me.  I know there is some fabric in hers I can use.  Time to dig it out and start stuffing.

Our last stop was the Grey Bear's Ewaste center to get rid of the keyboard that died back in November.  It was in the back of the last pile we sorted.   Woot!  All gone!

It was way more fun to do with a friend.  And what I have found is that having another human who is not judgemental  helping me by being willing to dialog about the stuff actually allows me to get into a different perspective.  So a careful selection of a few really good friends to hang out while you pick and choose can really make it easier and even a bit more fun.

I think 5 hours is enough.  I'm going to shove the stuff on my couch to one side and play a bit of World of Warcraft.
