Mucking off the sofa, part 2

I left off at8.

9. I found a big pile of batiks.  I just love batiks and these there are almost enough to do a couple quilt tops.  The box is almost full.

10. Narrow strips.  If they are about 1/4 to 1/2 inch wide they go in a bag to make fabric yarn balls.  Future for some are dishrags.  Yeah, I know, you can buy a whole package of sponges.    But what a waste of land fill.  I'm going to take my big bag of yarn strips to Stitch and Bitch on Thur evening and tie them together.  It is the quilters equivalent of the giant ball of string.  I've discovered that they have to be at least one handspan long to tie together, and the longer the better.  Any shorter and its just two knots cuddling up.

Yes,  I am throwing away the short bits.  I can't sew them into a block if they aren't at least 3/4 of a inch wide.  Well I've done it but it isn't worth the effort and just makes a really aweful lump where the seams pile up.

11.  Dog bed stuffing.  I make dog beds for the local animal rescue societies.  I stuff them with left over batting from quilts.  Oh, not my quilts.  I don't actually get to that stage very often.  From other people's quilts.  They give me the leftovers.  I donated one last week.  Finished another small dog pillow, and have one in process.  Whenever I find the stuffing, into the pillow it goes.  Always have a pillow in process.  It uses up some of the home dec fabrics I've accumulated.  Next week I'll do an errand run and deliver them.

12) Oh, my pen wallet.  Into the purse.  I wondered where that disappeared.

13)Directions to a meeting I went to in January.  That should have hit the trash months ago.  No time like the present.

14) Two CD's.  Into the music binder.  Jewel cases take up too much space.  I carefully fold the liner notes into one pocket and the music goes into the other pocket.

15) The "dimple" quilt project.  Got a half dozen 4 patch blocks done and here is more dimple fabric.  Now where did I put the rest of it.  Oh yeah, in that bag on the top of the project hutch.  Now they are all in a project box together and I have liberated a bag to put the "not strip" scraps.  The pile of those was in danger of toppling over it was so tall.  Now they are all easy to grab.  And not cluttering the couch, floor, tabletops, etc.

16) a bag of papers.  Prolly old bills, don't know how old.  And I"m not looking.  Just putting them in the conglomerate pile of papers to sort thru later.  A couple of notebooks.

Almost to the cushion!  Just 6 inches of kipple left.

17)  Woot!  I found the cowl I knitted behind one of the cushions.  Was looking for a pile that some of the scraps matched with and I felt like a magician.  Look what I pulled out of my cushions!  I think I"ll wear it to work tomorrow.

18) A pamphlet for Ikea cupboards.  I always look for more ways to store stuff when what a really need to do is get rid of some of it.  sigh...

19) OMG!  I found my other hair brush!  Its been missing for almost a year!

I lost it right about the time I bought the fabric shop which was in August of last year.  It is the best, natural bristles that get the tangles out but is so soft on the scalp.  Well that made this whole process worth going thru.

20) Three boxes of 7th Sea trading cards.  Those are going to Goodwill.

I've found the bottom of the pile!  Now that feels like an accomplishment.  I'm not looking at the rest of the room.  I don't want to overwhelm myself with all the rest there is to do.  I just have to keep plugging away at it one square foot at a time.

Thanks for being here for me, imaginary friend!  Isn't it funny how little tricks like this actually work?
